Sparks of Learning Brightens Families
From April 29th to May 8th, sparks of learning generated by Suncoast Remake Learning Days brightened our four-county region. More than 10,000 people and families in Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota counties participated in over 145 engaging hands-on experiences presented by the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading with generous support from The Patterson Foundation.
We know family and parent engagement is a critical component in creating a strong educational ecosystem. Suncoast Remake Learning Days gave us many opportunities in out-of-school-time hours to help families develop a greater understanding of what learning looks like — strengthening parent/child relationships and introducing parents and caregivers to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning.
The families in our region responded with great positivity to Suncoast Remake Learning Days events. Here are some of their comments and observations:
“Tracy was great teaching us about compost.”
“We are so grateful to The Patterson Foundation for making all of this possible. Our families are having a blast!”
“I loved seeing the kids able to use paint and glitter in a way they’re probably not allowed to at home.”
“We have been to 3 Suncoast Remake Learning Days events so far, and they have all been fantastic.”
“We are so grateful for this. Normally, there is very little we can do with our kids that is free. These experiences have been amazing, and we are all learning so much.”
“This is a great way to promote STEAM skills, I overheard a child saying, this is FUN school!”
“Thank you for having events like this. Suncoast Remake Learning Days has been great for my family.”
“This event is buzzing with fun!” Overheard at a science event featuring Bees.
“I feel more comfortable now bringing my kids to a museum.”
“We’ve been to several events in our area. This has been so great for my grandchildren.”
“This is so exciting to see everyone in person and so happy engaging. My child could do this all day. You should do this several times a year instead of just once.”
“I think I’m having more fun than my kid!”
“I love all Suncoast Remake Learning Days events I have attended with my three kids. This is simply amazing.”
“!Gracias! por hacer eventos así para nuestra comunidad (Thank you for making theses events possible for the Latino Community).”
Parents and caregivers affirmed the important role they play in our educational ecosystem. We are already looking forward to the spring of 2023, when Suncoast Remake Learning Days will once again electrify the Suncoast!
