The Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading (SCGLR) and The Laundry Project teamed up to hold Pop Up Neighbor events at SuperMatt Laundromat/LavanderÃa locations. Pop Up Neighbor events are unexpected opportunities where volunteers make real connections with the community while alleviating the cost of laundry. For three hours, everyone who walks into the laundromat gets their laundry fees paid, thanks to the generosity of The Patterson Foundation.
Since 2018, albeit interrupted by COVD, SCGLR has hosted 18 Pop-Up Neighbor Through Laundry events providing 1,083 families with 11,122 loads of laundry averaging ten loads per family—that’s a lot of suds!
With appreciation for each volunteer, Current Initiatives, SCGLR’s lead partners, participating businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and the media, communities are strengthened through caring. Together, we’ve connected with hundreds of families and completed thousands of loads of laundry.
