Embracing Dr. Seuss’ Differences Day

March 2, 2016

Embracing Our Differences will be partnering with Sarasota and Manatee County elementary schools as well as the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and the United Way of Manatee County to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss on Wednesday, March 2, 2016.

What better way to celebrate the birthday of such a beloved writer of children’s books than reading to a child? Dr. Seuss epitomizes a love of children and learning. His use of rhyme makes an effective tool for teaching young children the basic skills needed to be successful in an ever changing world. When we celebrate Dr. Seuss and reading, we send a clear message to our children that reading is fun and important.

Please consider becoming a part of Embracing Dr. Seuss’ Differences Day by volunteering an hour of your time to read and teach a child the value of diversity and respect for others. CLICK HERE to volunteer at elementary schools throughout Manatee and Sarasota counties. The deadline to volunteer is February 15, 2016.

Embracing Dr. Seuss’ Differences Day is part of the National Education Association’s Read Across America, an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss.
