The Suncoast Campaign for

Grade-Level Reading

The Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading (SCGLR) is a four-county effort in Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota counties in Florida

fostering wide community participation to achieve shared aspirations for the success of families and children.

We are proud to be part of the more than 390 Campaign for Grade-Level Reading communities in 44 states across the nation and in the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Canada.
The Patterson Foundation is the regional accelerator with county specific work led by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, United Way Suncoast, and United Way of Charlotte County.

What’s New

The Importance of Summer Learning

Researchers have discovered that students lose significant academic skills during summer breaks, particularly impacting those from families with fewer resources. This phenomenon, known as the “summer slide,” can compound over the years, making it increasingly challenging to address. To combat this, the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, supported by The Patterson Foundation, launched THIS BOOK IS COOL!, a series of 100 webisodes to engage the minds of incoming students in grades PreK–3.

Registration is now closed, but if you still want to participate, we encourage you to check out books in the 2024 Book Guide from your local library and follow along in the Webisode Library. Activity guides are located in each grade level and connected to their corresponding webisodes.
