The Suncoast Campaign for

Grade-Level Reading

The Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading (SCGLR) is a four-county effort in Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota counties in Florida

fostering wide community participation to achieve shared aspirations for the success of families and children.

We are proud to be part of the more than 390 Campaign for Grade-Level Reading communities in 44 states across the nation and in the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Canada.
The Patterson Foundation is the regional accelerator with county specific work led by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, United Way Suncoast, and United Way of Charlotte County.

We all know THIS BOOK IS COOL!, but have you seen how cool the kiddos are?!

Why THIS BOOK IS COOL!?
 Research shows that when students are out of school for the summer without engaging in learning, they can lose more than two months of reading progress. This loss disproportionately impacts children from asset-limited families, slowing progress toward third-grade reading proficiency and widening the achievement gap. Because summer learning loss is cumulative, catching up becomes increasingly difficult each year. THIS BOOK IS COOL! creates engaging reading opportunities that help prevent the summer slide and close the achievement gap.

For folks who did not register in time but still want to participate, we encourage you to check out these books from your local library and follow along here. Activity guides are located in each grade level and are connected to their corresponding webisode.
