School District of Manatee County
The School District of Manatee County (SDMC) serves approximately 15,000 students in grades pre-K to third grade. SDMC is deeply committed to closing the gap for our most at-risk students in these grade levels and helping them achieve to a level of proficiency by third grade. As a District, we have a strong partnership with the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading in Manatee County and serve proudly with our community on the Steering Committee. As the direct beneficiary of this effort, we come to the table with strong involvement from our school board, District Administration and Title I Elementary Principals. As a school district, we have chosen to focus our efforts on our Title I schools because historically these are the students who have the most challenges and have traditionally had low test scores on the Third-Grade Assessment.
As a Founding Network Weaver in the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading in Manatee County effort, we are excited about our partnership with the other agencies and community volunteers to ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed. Our number one focus this year for our 15 Title I schools is to help reduce chronic absenteeism and remove the summer slide as possible roadblocks to success.
